West Virginia Wesleyan College Dedicates New Solar Array

A solar array that began operating in April 2022 at West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC) in Buckhannon, WV is expected to provide 11 percent of power to the campus, enough to power over 63 homes and prevent the release of 727 tons of carbon dioxide every year. This multi-million dollar project was developed by Pickering Energy Solutions. A portion of the construction was supported by a $380,000 Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program. Pickering will sell the produced energy to WVWC through a power purchase agreement. The project uses 1,328 bi-facial panels with solar collection capabilities on both the front and back surfaces and was the largest array in the First Energy/Mon Power system at the time of its installation. WVWC interim president, Dr. James Moore said the college is “thankful to Dr. Pickering, and the USDA, for the opportunity to be part of a more sustainable world. It’s so important that we at Wesleyan lead by example and embrace alternative energy solutions…”
