West Virginia Sustainable Schools is a WV Department of Education award program that recognizes schools for implementing sustainable practices in their facilities, into the curriculum, and in the community. Public and private schools in West Virginia may apply for this recognition related to accomplishments in the areas of:
- Pillar 1: Environmental and Sustainability Education
- Pillar 2: Healthy School Environments
- Pillar 3: Environmental Impact and Energy Efficiency
Schools are recognized annually for these accomplishments with awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The top WV Sustainable Schools program awardees are nominated to the U.S. Department of Education as U.S. Green Ribbon Schools.
