The West Virginia Highlands Conservancy (WVHC) promotes, encourages and works for the conservation—including both preservation and wise management—and appreciation of the natural resources of West Virginia and the Nation. WVHC focuses primarily on the Highlands Region of West Virginia, but works for the cultural, social, educational, physical health, spiritual and economic benefit of present and future generations of residents and visitors alike. WVHC accomplishes its work through advocacy, supporting the study of nature and conservation, and preserving and protecting the mountains and streams of West Virginia. Specific issues of concern include climate change, coal mining in Candy Darter Habitat, Corridor H Highway, Dolly Sods Wilderness Stewards, Gas & Oil, Mining, National Forest Integrity Project, and ORV (Off-Road Vehicle) Use on Public Lands.
