The West Virginia Flood Tool is an online interactive mapping tool that offers floodplain managers, insurance agents, developers, real estate agents, local planners and citizens a way to make informed decisions about flood risks for their area or property. The tool uses data from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) National Flood Hazard Layers, along with web map services from West Virginia state agencies to illustrate various layers relevant to flood planning (ex. flood layers, reference layers, basemap layers) and obtaining flood hazard information. The WV Flood Tool offers three views depending on the user’s preference for level of detail: Public View, Expert View, and Risk MAP View. The tool can be used on desktop computers and smart phones. It was developed by the West Virginia GIS Technical Center with funding from the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
