Mineral County Schools Energy Upgrades

Mineral County Schools in Keyser, WV teamed up with the engineering firm CMTA for a performance contracting project for 12 school renovations. The project, completed in 2020, included 15 buildings encompassing approximately 700,000 square feet and resulted in a 41 percent drop in the overall Energy Use Intensity (EUI), from 73 to 43 kBtu/SF/year. The project included installation of geothermal wells, two solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, new 95 percent efficient condensing boilers and pumps, the latest HVAC controls, high-volume gym ventilation ceiling fans, building envelope measures, electric rate changes, LED lighting, and low-flow plumbing fixtures.  All serve to reduce the district’s energy consumption and operating costs.
