Groundbreaking Federal Purchase Agreement Leads to Utility-Scale Solar Facility that Will Reduce NETL’s Carbon Footprint

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Morgantown, WV developed a unique power purchase agreement (PPA) to buy solar power produced from FirstEnergy/Mon Power’s new Fort Martin utility-scale solar plant located in Maidsville, WV.  NETL’s early, first-of-its-kind commitment to purchase 100 percent of its Morgantown facility electricity needs helped make construction of the solar plant possible.

The groundbreaking agreement between NETL and Mon Power was so unique that NETL has been contacted by other government agencies to help guide their efforts to incorporate 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030, a goal set forth via The Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability federal executive order.
