This article covers a ceremony held in The Culture Center at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston, WV in October 2023 recognizing West Virginia public school districts awarded grants by the Coalfield Solar Fund. The two West Virginia schools were Calhoun County Schools and Mercer County Schools, the initiative’s first grant winners. The Coalfield Solar Fund Initiative, launched in March 2023, is partnering with Secure Solar Futures and the NEED project “to advance renewable energy and establish new career pathways for Coalfield communities through West Virginia and other regions.
