Black Rock Wind Farm is a Clearway Energy Group commercial operation that spans Grant and Mineral Counties in West Virginia. The wind farm’s 23 wind turbines produce 115 megawatts of energy, enough to power 55,000 homes, and save 298,500 metric tons of CO2 emissions. At the time of its completion in 2022, it increased the state’s wind energy generation by 15 percent. Clearway is one of the most advanced wind power projects in the region and the largest in West Virginia, one of the leading taxpayers in Grant and Mineral Counties, and will support many jobs moving forward, according to its CEO. The company supplies wind power to Toyota West Virginia and AEP Energy Partners under long-term Power Purchase Agreements. Clearway collaborates with Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College to conduct an apprenticeship program to help students earn certifications to work in the renewable energy industry.
Note that federal lawsuits have been filed against Black Rock developers asserting that the plant’s operation has “’substantially and unreasonably’ affected the ‘serenity, ambience, wildlife viewing ad aesthetic nature” of their real property…”
