Appalachian Voices envisions an Appalachia with healthy ecosystems and resilient local economies that allow communities to thrive. For over 20 years, Appalachian Voices has been the region’s grassroots advocate in campaigns to protect the air, water, land and communities of the Appalachian Mountains, including stopping mountaintop removal, holding the coal industry accountable, building a new economy, building energy democracy, and stopping pipelines and fracked gas buildout. Appalachian Voices works in a five-state section of Central and Southern Appalachia–including all or parts of North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia—to help lead Appalachia’s transition from fossil fuels to clean energy and a just future.
